About Semaphore Farm
Come and unwind in the peaceful surroundings of Semaphore Farm Camp, where nature and history meet. Nestled within private forest and pasture, our pet-friendly campground offers a rustic yet comfortable retreat, just moments from the Port Arthur Historic Site.
Our spacious sites let you choose your perfect spot, whether shaded beneath towering eucalypts or open to the starry sky. With fresh spring water, a cozy camp kitchen, and a crackling fire when permitted, you’ll find everything you need to relax and reconnect with nature.
Staying at Semaphore Farm means slowing down and soaking up the beauty of Tasmania’s wild landscape. Wander our forest trails, spot native wildlife, and enjoy the friendly, welcoming atmosphere that makes every visit feel special.
We occasionally close for short periods for maintenance. These times will be blocked out for booking.

Paddock Camp
You’re free to choose your own camping site for either tent or van. Ideal if you prefer space around you, or you’re in a group and don’t need a level site.

Great location with plenty of space to set up your own campsite. We used Semaphore as a base to explore the peninsula and really enjoyed our stay. The cherries for sale on the road into Semaphore were a nice bonus, and we loved being able to bring our dog along. We were camping in a tent and would recommend.

We had a great stay here, no complaints whatsoever. The owner is lovely, she gave us interesting information about the property and Port Arthur area in general. The site has a toilet, hot shower, big undercover area for cooking (kitchen taps also had hot water!), camp fires allowed, beautiful views and walking distance from the historic site - so good. Well priced, definitely recommend 🙂

Great location, walking distance to the beach, everyone is friendly, being able to have camp fire, shower and toilet is basic but that’s the great thing about camping, safe for kids to ride bikes, run around and play on tyre swing.

Camping Perfection! This is the most beautiful camping spot, we truly didn’t want to leave. It is peaceful and we are so happy we found this camping treasure. Marion our host is such a giving caretaker who takes a genuine interest in all her campers. This is a unique experience, we will be back!

This was the maiden voyage for our new caravan and we could not have picked a better site! The welcome was lovely. The place was ever so spacious (quiet at night) and the view was just stunning. The walks from this site are truly lovely and I can’t recommend it enough. I must say yes it’s rustic but to be a part of nature and still have a Campers Kitchen (with everything) a warm shower and a long drop toilet with character it’s worth the trip

Sempahore Farm - a fabulous camp. Camping at Semaphore Tree Farm was beautiful and most enjoyable. Property owner Marian is just lovely, she has wealth of knowledge on the farm and the general Port Arthur/Tasman Peninsula area which she is more than happy to share. The hot shower, spring water, and camping kitchen were very appreciated, even the long drop was a good one! The camping pads were a good distance apart, and the whole area is surrounded by trees with plenty of wildlife. Just a short walk to the beach, or short drive into Port Arthur village. The scenery of the Tasman Peninsula is to be seen to be believed!! Stunning! Our stay was beautifully quiet and so relaxing...and far too short! I will be back then again as soon as possible!

Beautiful campsite with an even more beautiful host, the lovely lady does a talk when you arrive and tells you more about where your staying/the history and this also gives you a chance to get to know other people who are staying near by if you choose to! Also the shower was amazing so warm and just what we needed half way through our trip! Has a toilet too (long drop) but one of the cleanest I’ve seen! Also they don’t over book the site and have a fire pit for everyone with the option of buying a fair priced amount of wood. 100% recommend this site!

We had an amazing time at Semaphore Farm. It's a beautiful, quiet location with fantastic facilities. Even better, it's dog friendly! We were here 8 nights over Christmas and New Year and will definitely be back. The property is in a great location, walking distance to the Port Arthur Historic Site and multiple dog friendly beaches and a short drive to other local attractions.

We LOVED staying at Semaphore Farm Camp and meeting Marian, our host. The views are spectacular, it’s within walking distance to the Port Arthur ruins, I LOVED the rustic lounge area, was grateful to be able to top up our van with the delicious local spring water and loved that I could take my beautiful dog with us.
The highlight for us was spending time chatting with Marian and hearing about the history of the farm and how the camp came to be - it’s her family’s camp. So keep this in mind when you go. Some things for people to know before they go:
1. The sites are hilly and, being a big rig, we had a bit of trouble betting onto our site. But it is doable and definitely worth it.
2. The facilities are rustic - this is camp, not a resort. I’ve seen people complain that it’s a drop-loo. Guys, you’re in the bush, expect it. Most Aussie’s are used to a drop loo, they’re fine.
3. Marian, the host, likes to meet her guests and give them a bit of history about the camp. Expect this. It’s only fair that a host would want to know who’s on their private property. And if you put the timelines together, you’ll understand why this is so important in this part of the world. We LOVED our stay, thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with Marian and we will definitely be back. Only for longer next time.

Local Activities
Explore Historic Sites
The World renown Port Arthur Historic Site is a few minutes drive or a 10 minute walk away while the Coal Mines Historic site at Saltwater River is only a 20 minute drive away.

Swimming, Surfing & Beach walks
It’s a is a very short walk to Possum Beach while the stunning Safety Cove Beach is just a few minute’s drive away. Remarkable Cave and the Crescent Bay Walk are also within a 5-minute drive.
Stewarts Bay beach is also a safe swimming beach for children and less than 10 minutes’ drive.
Other favourite swimming spots are at White Beach and Slopen Main Beach – a 15- and 25-minute drive away.
As you leave the peninsula, Eaglehawk Neck Beach is great for walking and surfing.
Other top surf spots include Remarkable cave, Roaring Beach near Nubeena, and Shipstern Bluff for the big wave surfers.
Forest Walks & Bike Rides
We have many km’s of walking and bike trails through 150 acres of managed private forest directly accessed from the camp.
There is also a walking track to the Port Arthur Historic Site accessed from the camp’s rear gate, and there are many walking trails on the Tasman Peninsula within a short drive such as the Cresent Bay Walk just past Safety Cove.

Kayaking & Fishing
The beautiful Canarvon Bay area has quiet coves for peaceful paddles and the whole Peninsula provides great fishing spots in many locations. BYO equipment.

Wildlife Watching
There is plenty of wildlife to see at night (even Tassie Devils) and birds during the day. You might even see our resident Wedgetail Eagle! Find out more about the wildlife on the Peninsula here.
Horse-riding Trails
We welcome camping with horses, and there are secure yards available along with fantastic trails through the forests of the 400 acres. (Prior Permission required).
Riding on the nearby beaches is permitted. Enquire with Marian for more information and booking guidance.
